The Directory is an outgrowth of the Bluegrass Green Living & Energy Expo. The 5th Annual Expo will be held October 25-26, 2008 at the Lexington Convention Center (see www.bluegrassenergyexpo.org). Proceeds support the Directory first, and any excess funds go to support the Expo.

About the Directory

Purpose - To connect consumers with goods, services and resources that will help the Bluegrass Region move toward a more healthy, sustainable and prosperous future.

Goals:

  1. To promote businesses marketing goods, services and lifestyles that contribute to the above purpose
  2. To offer a handy guide to resources provided by the education, government and non-profit sectors
  3. To help promote other green community projects, events and initiatives

The Directory is designed to be a one-stop resource for businesses, schools, government agencies, non-profits, and other resources serving the central Bluegrass Region, to help you, your family, and your community move toward a more healthy, sustainable and prosperous future. We define the central Bluegrass Region as the area within about a 40 mile radius of Lexington.

Timeline and Future Plans for Painting the Bluegrass Green

This Directory is the 2nd in a series of projects designed to empower citizens creating a more healthy, sustainable and prosperous Bluegrass. Following is a timeline of our activities to date and future plans.

2002 - 2003 Bluegrass Energy Expo conceived & planning begins
October 16-17, 2004 1st Annual Bluegrass Energy Expo held (853 attendees) and Directory conceived
September 24-25, 2005 2nd Annual Bluegrass Energy Expo held (1,124 attendees)
October 2005 Expo name expanded to include "Green Living" & planning for Directory begins
July 2006 1st Bluegrass Energy & Green Living Directory published (7,000 copies)
October 13, 2006 SRO crowd of 100+ attends our "Green Building from the Ground Up" seminar
October 14-15, 2006 3rd Annual Bluegrass Energy & Green Living Expo held (1,465 attendees)
April 2007 2nd Edition of Green Directory published (10,000 copies)
October 6-7, 2007 4th Annual Bluegrass Energy & Green Living Expo held (1,230 attendees)
February 21, 2008 1st Quarterly Bluegrass Green Groups Gathering held & Calendar launched
April 2008 3rd Edition of Green Directory to be published (20,000 copies)

* We are planning a Green Business coalition to begin in late 2008. Ideas under consideration include a Marketing Group; Business Trainings and Certifications; Seminars, Workshops and a Buying Club for consumers, a Newsletter/Publication, and Educational Programs and Internships for young people.
